What is CogniFit’s ‘Cognitive Age’?

PROFILE PAGE SCORES

1. Understanding the Cognitive Scores

Users of CogniFit’s assessment and training platform will notice several numbers throughout their profile which help them to understand the state of their cognitive abilities and their overall general cognitive health.

On the profile page, users can see a selection of Cognitive Domains and how they score compared to people of their same gender, age, and region. They can also see a selection of the Cognitive Skills that are above average for their group, as well as the skills that might need additional training.

These scores range from 0 to 800, with 400 being the average score for the group associated with the user.

While these are helpful for understanding the user’s individual strengths and weaknesses, it can be difficult to get a simple snapshot of overall cognitive state of the user.

2. What is Cognitive Age?

CogniFit created the Cognitive Age rank to provide users with a simple, easy to understand marker of their cognitive profile.
When we are very young, our cognitive abilities quickly increase as we grow from children into adults. Our cognitive abilities typically peak around 20 years of age, after which point the begin to gradually decline, and depending on how often we use these cognitive abilities, the decline can be faster or slower.

By comparing a user’s scores against other users in their same age, gender, and region group, as well as with groups between 10 years older and younger, we can see whether the user’s scores are more closely related to the average scores of older or younger groups.

The Cognitive Age is therefore an easy way to tell whether the user’s cognitive abilities are where they should be based on the user’s age.

3. How can a user improve their cognitive age?

Since the Cognitive Age score is directly calculated based on the user’s overall ranking in the various Cognitive Skills, the best way to improve the user’s Cognitive Age is to train the Cognitive Skills in need of improvement, as well as maintaining the areas of cognitive strength.
